There’s a scene where Ed and Heid comment on Oberth’s book being a best seller even during the inflation because everybody dreams of going into space (condensed in the movie itself to a brief mention of the space boom). Noah’s “sale” scene is rather different, with Steiner there seeing auras and futures and being mystical. Hanussen (the guy who buys Noah) and Rudolf Steiner (famous metaphysical scientist of the era accused of being a Jew by Hitler and Eckart) meet. A note on the script says Ed has realized that that’s Hohenheim, but since expanding on Hohenheim’s role in spreading alchemy would take up a lot of screen time it was all cut, including that line.Įd also asks Heiderich to try calling him “Nii-san” but Heiderich doesn’t properly hear the request since Ed mumbles and then Heiderich breaks into a cough, which veers the scene back on track with the finished cut movie for a few more scenes. Ed muses that he existed in this world, too. Ed asks if he’s heard of Paracelsus, whom Heiderich has. When Ed asks if Heiderich thinks it’s all made up, Heiderich says he believes Ed’s from someplace else, but he can’t believe in a world with alchemy actually working.
